Buying Used Trucks For Nigeria

What sells in Nigeria
Two configurations carry most of the volume. The HOWO 371 horsepower 6x4 tipper is the highest-demand single model for construction, quarrying and sand winning. The 375 horsepower 6x4 tractor unit dominates long-haul freight on the Lagos to Onitsha, Kano and Abuja corridors. For container work out of Apapa, buyers take the 420 horsepower tractor.
Why Chinese trucks won here
Nigerian operators do not choose on specifications. They choose on how fast a truck can be repaired and put back to work. HOWO parts are stocked in Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt, and the WD615 and Weichai engine families are familiar to local mechanics. That repair network, not the truck itself, is why these models hold their value. Shacman is a strong second for the same reason, since it shares the Weichai engine platform.
Vehicle age in practice
Most units moving through the market are five to ten years old. That is not a quality ceiling, it is where the price and the remaining working life balance out. A ten-year-old HOWO with a sound engine will keep earning for years with normal maintenance. But the older a unit gets, the closer it moves to the fifteen-year line, and the harder it becomes to resell in Nigeria or to move on to another market.

TANAN does not guarantee customs clearance or import approval in Nigeria, and we do not publish duty rates.
